Consulegis European Meeting 2020: where law meets culture

Earlier this month, we were in France for Consulegis’ Annual European Meeting. This year again, the event was a great opportunity to develop strong and mutually beneficial relationships with international lawyers.

The annual European regional conference, this year held in Margaux – 30 kilometres away from Bordeaux – brings together law professionals from across the world (from Cardiff to Turin to Miami) to gain and share knowledge and expertise – legally, commercially and culturally.

It gives us a chance to develop strong and mutually beneficial relationships with international lawyers who we deal with and refer to clients regularly.

Marlies Hoecherl, who leads our international offering, and Céline Jones, who leads our French desk, attended the conference with Gethin Bennett.

Gethin held a joint presentation with Diederick van Dalen (De Advocaten van Van Riet) on the comparisons of employment law implications of insolvency in England and Wales and in the Netherlands.

Other topics presented and discussed at the conference included employment activities in the Czech Republic, banking and investment developments in the Far East, and how Blockchain has developed in Switzerland and the EU.

Marlies, who was appointed as Vice Chair of Consulegis’ Advisory Board in May 2019, also attended the board meeting to discuss the network’s ongoing strategy.

Between the presentations and formalities, delegates got to experience what Bordeaux has to offer – including a vineyard guided tour and wine-tasting, and savouring classic French cuisine.

We’re now looking forward to attending Consulegis’ Spring Conference in May. The event will take place in the heart of Europe’s financial centre, Frankfurt, and will celebrate the network’s 30th anniversary.
