David is a Principal Associate in our Commercial Disputes team.

He is an experienced commercial disputes lawyer who advises a range of clients on various dispute issues such as breach of contract, shareholder/director issues, restrictive covenants (e.g., employee/employer) and risk management. David has significant experience of complex contested commercial matters, acting for claimant or defendant in cases from the County Court to Court of Appeal. He has acted for individuals (including high net worths), SMEs, a corporate trustee, large national companies, PLCs, Government bodies and Local Authorities. His work has also involved public law, insolvency, debt collection and intellectual property.

Keen to ensure the best, pragmatic and most efficient result for his clients, David often concludes issues for clients out of court by means of negotiation or mediation.

  • Advising a corporate trustee in mediations and successful negotiations to preserve a substantial trust fund (worth £10’s of millions) and bringing a Part 64 claim for the distribution to c.4,000 beneficiaries.
  • Acting for Cardiff City Football Club (Holdings) Limited and Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan in an unfair prejudice petition issued by a minority shareholder (Re Cardiff City Football Club (Holdings) Limited [2022] EWHC 2023 (Ch)), successfully defending both clients at trial.
  • Involved in leading post-settlement activities of a case where c.140 investors pursued successful in respect of against a fraudulent investment scheme.
  • Advising a PLC on novel contractual matters and issues around interpretation concerning a supply of goods and services agreement.
  • Advising the Gambling Commission in relation to matters concerning the 4th National Licence and litigation arising from the competition.
  • Advising a national logistics company on contractual issues in a £1m+ dispute, resulting in a successful outcome at mediation.
  • Advising a national recruitment services provider on defending claims related to unlawful means conspiracy and misuse. of confidential information, including defeating to a threatened injunction, resulting in a negotiated outcome and avoiding court.
  • Successfully negotiating an outcome for a large US cyber risk solutions provider in relation to a claim for breach of contract involving disputed matters of jurisdiction.
  • Advising a global printing services provider on defending a breach of contract claim valued at over £2.7m, involving claims under the Supply of Goods and Service Act, resulting in a negotiated settlement.
  • Advising a director and shareholder of a private limited company on the precise terms and effect of a shareholders agreement and agreeing his exit from on favourable terms.
  • Successfully defending claims of breach of contract, unlawful means conspiracy and misuse of confidential information for a national cyber security services provider.
  • Advising a global alarms system company in relation to vexatious proceedings brought against it by a former employee, resulting in the claim being struck out at court.
