Justin Mason

Justin is a commercial property lawyer with a particular focus on development work. His wide client base includes developers of bespoke projects and schemes; house-builders and high net worth individuals.

Justin specialises in complex transactions and development projects. This includes the drafting and negotiation of option agreements; joint venture and development management agreements and infrastructure agreements.

In addition to bespoke developments for specified uses, Justin also acts for a number of clients in regard to larger regeneration projects.

Justin provides strategic advice in respect of development rights and removal of impediments when preparing site assembly documentation. He provides comprehensive advice in respect of Rights to Light issues and regularly presents seminars on the subject.

Additionally, he has extensive experience of project management in respect of the acquisition and disposal of large scale property portfolios and leasehold transactions.

He has recently contributed two chapters to the forthcoming Law Society publication – “Risk and Negligence in Property Transactions” (edited by John de Waal QC of Hardwicke Chambers).

  • Leading a cross-practice team (property, banking, construction and procurement) advising a community interest company on a £7m regeneration project at a South Wales Harbour.  The team has negotiated the second round of documentation including a bespoke Agreement for Lease to allow the development of the Maritime Centre (including community facilities; science centre; micro-brewery and surf-centre) and open-air theatre/entertainment facilities. Advice has been given in respect of transitional arrangements for the relocation of the Harbourmaster facilities. The project was awarded a multi-million pound grant from the European Development Fund. We continue to advise on the procurement and banking elements with additional funding from Big Lottery, WEFO and the Coastal Communities Fund.
  • Acted for a leading crematoria operator in respect of the development of 10 crematoria around the country, dealing with all aspects of the transactions from site assembly, funding and construction, together with providing strategic advice.
  • Advises corporate entities in respect of their property portfolios including TVS Supply Chain Solutions Limited, MEWA Textiles UK Limited and Bioquell Plc.
