Marlies Hoecherl

Marlies undertakes a wide variety of corporate and commercial work, frequently with an international or cross border angle.

Marlies advises on M&As, corporate reorganisations and a vast variety of commercial contracts including SLAs and commercial joint ventures, mostly with cross border aspects. She also has specialist expertise in the energy sector and the food and drink sector.

Marlies speaks regularly on the subject of Brexit, both in the UK and at international events. She also regularly talks to students of Welsh schools about the benefits of modern foreign languages in the workplace.

Aside from her legal career, Marlies also holds a master’s degree and PhD in Archaeology, speaks German and French fluently, and reads Italian and Spanish.

In 2013, Marlies was appointed to the board of Consulegis, the international network of independent law firms. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees at the Sherman Cymru Theatre.

  • Acting for KFM Holdings Limited in relation to the sale of the Timbmet Group, to Hadleigh Timber Group. Several sets of lawyers, including those acting for the pension trustees in relation to consents and security arrangements were involved in this matter.
  • Acting for the sellers of Clarks UK Limited on the acquisition of the company by a subsidiary of The Hain Celestial Group Inc. Clarks UK Limited is local business based in Newport, South Wales and the buyer is part of a global corporate group, headquartered in the United States.
  • Acting for longstanding local client Wolfestone on the purchase of Robertson Languages International Limited, a translation and language training business based near Reading.
  • Advising our client on a number of acquisitions of accounting firms. The corporate team is leading the transaction, drafting transaction documents, assisting the client with due diligence and negotiating with the sellers.
  • Acting for Cardiff and Vale College to the purchase of ACT and the purchase of ALS Training, a potential JV in South East Asia and a number of commercial agreements.
