Philip Barratt (Capital Law)

Philip Barratt

Philip is a Partner in our Corporate team. He acts on all aspects of mergers and acquisitions, with a particular focus on private equity.

He advises investors and private equity houses on their investments and portfolio management, as well as supporting management teams. He has advised a variety of clients, from entrepreneurs and owner-managed businesses through to large listed companies, on a range of transactions including acquisitions, disposals, investments, joint ventures and shareholder arrangements, both in the UK and internationally.

Philip has also been on secondment at AnaCap Financial Partners, a private equity fund, and CDC Group plc, the UK’s development finance institution.

Ranked as a Next Generation Partner in The Legal 500 2021, Philip is noted as being a pivotal member of the team that takes the lead on many of the most significant private equity/venture capital deals handled by the firm and described in a client testimonial as “a very personable, experienced transactional lawyer, who is capable of taking a commercial position and giving sensible and pragmatic advice”.

Philip was shortlisted for Young Dealmaker of the Year 2016, 2018 and 2020 at the Insider Wales Dealmakers Awards and was highlighted as one of 30 ‘young lawyers and accountants to watch’ in 2017, and described as “one of Wales’ top up-and-coming M&A / private equity lawyers”.

We are thankful for Capital Law’s support…Their advice has helped us, not only to execute the transaction in just a few months, but also to navigate the associated regulatory regimes. The thorough but pragmatic approach taken by Phil and the rest of the team has been crucial to ensure we could deliver the acquisition successfully.
